Fire detection systems warn occupants of a potential fire outbreak, providing them with enough time to safely evacuate the vicinity. Early fire detection allows precautionary action to be taken before the fire gets a chance to spread and block escape routes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Detecting fires quickly and accurately also minimises potential damage to property and other critical assets. Fire detection systems allow fires to be suppressed and controlled while the fire is still relatively small.<\/span><\/p>\n

What Are The Different Types Of Fire Detectors?\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>\n

Fire detectors use sensing technologies to detect the heat, smoke, radiation, or gas emissions associated with a fire. Fire detection systems often use a combination of the following types of detectors:<\/span><\/p>\n

Heat Detectors<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

Heat detectors<\/span><\/a>, or thermal detectors, are safety devices that are designed to respond to any substantial increase in temperature. The heat energy or radiation that causes temperatures to rise normally indicates the presence of a potential fire.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are two main types of heat detectors – fixed temperature detectors and rate-of-rise detectors.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fixed temperature detectors trigger an alarm when the temperature in a room increases beyond a preset value (usually 57<\/span>\u00b0C). Rate-of-rise detectors trigger an alarm when temperatures in a room start to rapidly increase (usually at a rate of 6.7 – 8.3\u00b0C per minute).<\/span><\/p>\n

Flame detectors are designed to identify and respond to the presence of light from flames and fires. These detectors use ultraviolet or infrared sensors to detect radiation emitted by a fire or flame.<\/span><\/p>\n

Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless gas produced by the incomplete combustion of fuels. Prolonged exposure to the gas is dangerous and can result in carbon monoxide poisoning. <\/span>Carbon Monoxide detectors<\/span><\/a> are used to indicate the outbreak of a fire by measuring CO levels in the air, and activate an alarm when dangerous levels of CO accumulate in a room.<\/span><\/p>\n
